Though labeled as a video converter, Cool DAT To MP3 Converter is, in fact, an audio extraction tool.

With its simple and intuitive functionality, it is capable of separating the soundtrack from any DAT video file and save it as an MP3 audio file.

The DAT files supported by this program refer exclusively to a MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 file used in VCDs and SVCDs to store interlaced video and audio streams. Note that, though it will also open any other file containing this extension (Windows data files, e-mail files, etc.), the program will not be able to produce any MP3 file out of them. The program offers you the list of quality presets that you can use for quick and easy audio extractions, or you can open the quality settings dialog and select the preferred bit rate for the audio. The values here refer to constant bit rates, and you will find figures as high as 1024. Any value higher than 256 will produce the highest rate this program can offer - 320 kbps (precisely one of the values not present in the list!).

This tool supports batch extraction, processing as many DAT files as it is needed in just one go. All the MP3 files created this way have the same quality settings.
